An airsoft pistol is a replica of a real hand gun. It is classified as a toy gun, but looks exactly like a real gun. It is close copy; many small details are the same for both guns. The only major difference between the guns is the projectiles used. Airsoft pistols shoot small 6mm pellets instead of bullets. These pellets are made up of plastic.

Airsoft spring pistols work using the stored potential energy in the spring. If you are scratching your head, trying to remember the concept of physics taught in college, then let me help you brush up. The theory says that the energy stored up without being used, and then it is known as potential energy. When the energy is released, it becomes kinetic energy. In order to understand this concept better, you can think of a large boulder resting at the top of a hill. While the boulder sits there, it has potential energy. When it starts rolling down the hill, it has kinetic energy. With this, I believe the concept of potential energy would be clear.

Inside spring powered airsoft pistols, you will find a spring. Now you mite be wondering that what is a spring doing inside an airsoft pistol. The answer is that it is the driving force of the pistol. When the user pulls back the slide, the spring is filled with potential energy just waiting to be released. When the trigger is pulled, the spring is released and that force sends the pellet zooming out of the muzzle with significant force. Many of the electric powered versions use a similar spring-loaded system but because their energy comes not just from the spring but also from the electricity they are not classified the same way.

Airsoft electric pistols are one of the most admired airsoft armaments among the serious players. It suits their requirements and at the same time do not over burden their pockets. Let’s go through the working of the airsoft pistols. In an airsoft electric pistol, electric motor, powered by a rechargeable battery compresses a spring which creates a burst of compressed air to propel the pellet. All together, this complicated mechanical assembly is referred to as the "gearbox" of pistol. Airsoft electric pistols are the most popular type and offer some great advantages over the spring powered pistols, particularly in terms of the rate of fire and shot distance.
These are available in two modes, namely automatic and semi-automatic. You may choose the one that suits your requirement. The automatic air soft5 pistols are gaining popularity these days.
