A Sinkhole is a natural depression on the surface of the earth and it is usually caused by Karst processes which involves chemical dissolution of suffusion processes and carbonate rocks. They vary in sizes and shapes and they form suddenly or gradually over a period of time. Some examples of sinkholes that we will be looking at in this article include red lake in Croatia, Sima Humboldt in Venezuela, Teiq Sinkhole in Oman, Deans Bluehole in Bahamas, Great Blue Hole in Belize, Xiaozhai Tiankeng in China, Harwood hole in New Zealand, Kingsley lake in Florida, Bimmah sinkhole in Oman, Zacaton in Mexico etc.
China is the home for the deepest and most impressive sinkhole in the world which is 662 meters deep. Xiaozhai Tiankeng is found in Chongqing municipality. The second largest sinkhole is also found in China and it is known as Dashiwei Tiankeng which is 613 meters deep it is found in Guangxi province. Croatia takes the third position for having the third deepest sinkhole in the world. Crveno Jezero measures 530 meters deep and it is found in the Split-Dalmatia region. The fourth deepest sinkhole is known as Minye Sinkhole and cave which is in Papua New Guinea in the region of New Britain. It measures 510 meters deep and the last in the top five groups of sinkholes is known as Haolong Tiankeng which is found in the Guangxi region in China.
There are three types of major sinkholes, although some people have grouped them differently. The first type of sinkhole is known as the solution sinkhole which normally occur in areas covered by a thin layer of soil/permeable sand or limestone exposed areas. They are usually bowl shaped depressions. The second type is known as cover collapse sinkhole and they are found in areas where a solution cavity has developed in the limestone to the extent that the overlying top material cannot support its own weight. They normally occur abruptly nad that is why they are known as collapse. They provide immediate changes in topography and occur in areas of soluble rocks. Cover subsidence is the last type and they are formed in areas where the cover material is relatively permeable.
Sinkholes can cause a lot of destructions to businesses, roads and homes. If it appears in your property, you have to do repair for the property’s foundation and ground stability. Sinkhole homes are very expensive to repair. A Sinkhole home is very dangerous and owners of these homes usually go through stressful and precarious situations. Solving your sinkhole problems has now been made easy. You can actually sell your sinkhole house today and buy another one in a good place.
