At least once in every adult's life he or she should start his own garden. There is a lot of happiness and joy to be found in the growing and nurturing of a garden. Even if you are brand new at gardening you should be able to plant and grow at least a couple of simple or easy plants in your very first garden plot. With the plethora of information that is available to budding gardeners these days there is no reason that you shouldn't have a successful garden when you are a beginner. Of course, that doesn't mean that gardening is easy. It can often be hard work! The following are some tips that you can use if you are thinking about starting your own garden.

Advance planning is a requirement for just about every garden. The simple fact is that seeds and seedlings will take some time to grow and if you want them to thrive you will need to plant them at specific times of the year. Yes, it is possible to grow flowers on a whim sometimes. If you want to have a thriving garden, however, you need to be prepared to do a lot of work a long time in advance. There are plants that need to be planted a long time before they will start to bloom. Some plants don't bloom for an entire year after they are planted. If you want your garden to be successful you need to be prepared to make a commitment to it.
Decide what it is that you want to grow. No two plants are exactly alike. Each type of plant has its own soil and nutrient requirements--you'll need to have these set up before you plant. If you plan out your garden in advance you'll be able to ensure that you have everything you need ready to go. If you don't do any advance planning you run the risk of accidentally killing your plants before they really have a chance to grow. There isn't any rule that advises against growing different types of plants but you need to plan that type of project out in advance before you start planting.

Prepare the ground before you begin planting. You might not believe this but your garden probably won't grow if all you do is put some seeds in the dirt and hope that they grow. You need to prepare the ground where you will be planting ahead of time. Things like rocks and other forms of debris need to be cleared out. Till your soil so that there is oxygen flowing freely through the ground. If you plan on having container gardens or an indoor garden you will need to do advance prep on your seedling pots and containers.

Growing your own garden is great fun! Admit it: you kind of like playing around in the dirt and having an excuse to get dirty.
You probably feel like a kid when you do it. This is perhaps the top reason that so many people become so dedicated to gardening. They love growing plants and the work associated with it!
