When cooking pumpkins, stand them upright and cut them halfway down the middle. Put the halves with the sides down on your baking sheets. Add a few drops of water to each baking sheet, then allow the pumpkin to bake for about one hour at 350 degrees.

Replace your spices twice a year. The flavor of spices diminishes if they sit around for too long. If you buy too much of a spice, give it to someone you love!

Sometimes when someone's grilling a hamburger, it will get stuck to the grill which makes it difficult to get off the grill. Try brushing vegetable oil on the cooking surface prior to cooking so that food does not stick.

Finish your prep work in advance. Having everything prepared before you begin cooking is important. Having a deadline for an important meal or event can become quite stressful when you are starting from scratch. By doing all of your preparation in advance, you avoid the stress and just enjoy your meal.

For a high-protein diet, meat isn't the only source available. Tofu, lentils and beans are great protein substitutes. Both of these protein-rich foods are available at most grocery stores. Fry up the tofu with seasonings to get a great meat alternative. Boil kidney, navy or pinto beans with seasonings and you can enjoy a protein-rich side dish.

If dishes have oil in them, reheat them by baking them to avoid greasiness; don't microwave them. Microwaves have such intense heat that they separate oil, which gets hot the quickest, from other ingredients that heat more slowly. However, baking the dish slowly and evenly reheats the entire dish, thus keeping the ingredients and flavors together.

If you are on a diet, try cutting down the amount of oil you use in your food. Most fats are brought into a diet through oil and butter. A great alternative to oils and butters is nonstick cooking sprays. These sprays give you a similar end result without the extra fat.

There's a neat trick you can use to save your sauce. In a separate bowl, blend 1 Tbs of corn starch with 2 Tbs of water. Stir this into the sauce to thicken it up. To prevent the sauce from getting overly thick, pour the corn starch and water mixture into the sauce very slowly and be sure that you are stirring it constantly.

When serving salads to guests, it is a good idea to leave the dressing on the side of the salad rather than on it. The amount dressing that people prefer on their salad varies so allow guests to add their own dressing. Make sure you have a selection to choose from.

The first bite of a meal can be divine. You can become a good cook without years of training. Anyone with a desire to cook can learn the basics and then improve on them. After having read this, you should be ready for your first kitchen adventure.
