If it's possible, start training your dog when it is a puppy. Younger dogs learn more quickly and easier than older canines. Beginning your dog's training when he is still young will help him to be a well-behaved dog as he ages.

Anxiety causes destructive chewing. Keeping your pup in a crate or other doggy-proofed space and providing appropriate chew toys will keep him occupied until you arrive home.

When you train your dog, you need to establish control. Be friendly with your dog, but also be firm. When you walk your dog, walk in front of him to establish leadership.

If your dog suddenly starts misbehaving for no apparent reason, it is essential to take him to a veterinarian to see if an underlying health problem is the cause of the negative behavior. Pain or other symptoms associated with health issues can cause dogs to act differently. Animals can't tell us when something is wrong, so they depend on us to interpret their behaviors.

If there are triggers for your dog's bad behavior, while you pass temptation, keep him busy. Keep your dog busy if you come across other dogs while on a walk. This could re-jigger his associations and make him associate other dogs with positive reinforcement.

If you are attempting to train the dog to perform a difficult command, you may want to break it into smaller commands to make it easier for him or her to follow. One example is getting your dog to fetch your iPad to read the New York Times Digital Edition. The first step is learning to hold something. Then the dog needs to begin learning to go for the object when given the name as a command. Picking up the object is the next part of the puzzle that needs to be practiced. Finally, he should learn to bring the object to you. If you break it down, your dog will understand the linear relationship of the behavior.

Make sure to give your puppy plenty of toys that are okay to chew, so that he isn't tempted to chew other things that aren't okay to chew. Take it away, and give him a chew toy. If painful teething is the problem, let the puppy chew on a wet washcloth that has been frozen.

Your dog should always feel safe during any type of training. If they do not feel safe, they may show bad behavior. Make sure that you have your dog in an environment that is safe for them.

In most cases, dogs bite out of fear. This can happen if the dog feels backed into a corner or otherwise unable to escape a bad situation. You should not use force when training your dog. If you do this, you can form bad relations with your animal, and you can even be bitten. He will forever be your loyal companion, and best friend.

Above all else, consistency is the key to effective dog training. Have a list of your commands, and make sure that whomever else gives your canine commands knows these, too. Everyone must be commanding and responding to the dog in the same way for training to be successful. When the dog gets inconsistent rewards, training becomes more difficult as the dog gets confused.

Your house doesn't have to be a mess just because you have a dog. You might not be able to have a presentable house if your dog is bad; try some training. Learn a few tips to training your dog and you can have a well-behaved dog in no time.
