Happy New Year everybody! I hope it is a good year for everyone. My fianc and I have a very expensive year coming up, we are getting married in May and booked our honeymoon to Florida just last night as a New Year's Eve gift to ourselves.

With this in mind, saving money this year is our main priority. It is tempting to try and cut back on costs like getting our car serviced, which is due soon, but in reality it is one cost that no one can afford to cut back on.

Getting your car serviced regularly can in fact save you a lot of money in the long run. A serviced car will have much better fuel efficiency than a car that is not serviced regularly. It will also be much less likely to break down, leaving you stranded and having to pay for maintenance and repairs.

If your car is fairly new and within its warranty period, you can take it to a franchised dealer. This means that they usually specialise in your make of car and used genuine parts from your manufacturer. Independent dealers should do this too, but be sure to check.

If your car is older then taking it to an independent dealer will usually be cheaper. Always look for a reputable one and make sure it is VAT registered. You might want to speak to friends and family to see if they can recommend a good one.

You should get your car serviced every 9,000 to 12,000 miles, or at least once a year if your annual mileage is not very high. There are some things you can check for yourself to keep your car in top condition and help to save fuel. Firstly, check your tyre pressure, the correct pressure can be found in your car's handbook. Buy yourself a tyre pressure gauge, you can pick one of these up for just a few pounds. Next, check your engine oil levels. Without the required amount of oil, your engine could seize up and could cost hundreds or thousands of pounds to repair. Lastly check your coolant levels, this will prevent your engine getting too hot and seizing up.

My fianc and I are hoping to trade in our car soon for a new Fiat 500. We will be sure to take it to a dealer that specialises in Fiat servicing Hinckley to keep in great condition and save money that can be used for the wedding!
