As winter sets in and the temperatures plummet there's an increase in the amount of dust, grit and salt on the roads which have the potential to damage your car. You might think it's pointless cleaning your car in winter as the usually wet conditions tend to muck the car up again pretty quickly but because of the increase in potentially damaging salt on the roads you should probably clean your car more often in winter and not less.
Road salt can cause corrosion on your car should it be left on for too long so make sure to at least rinse of your car on a weekly basis in order to prolong its life. The best is of course to also use a proper car shampoo and wax but many might find this to be too much to do on a weekly basis. When washing your car leave the bottom bit of your vehicle till last as this part is usually where most of the grit gets trapped and you want to avoid this getting trapped in your sponge and thus scratching the rest of your car. Also if you don't want to spend time waxing your car there are wax solutions available where you just spray them on and leave them.
You should probably direct special attention to your wheels and tyres during the colder periods. There are specialised products out there which will give both your tyres and your alloy wheels a longer life. It might be worth some weekend elbow grease to make sure your car last you longer. Another irritation with winter grit and salt is that it dirties up your windscreen very quickly. Make sure the car is always topped up with screen wash and keep a spare can of ready mixed solution in the boot. A dirty windscreen can be dangerous as it obstructs your vision. There are specialised winter solutions on the market designed to tackle cold temperatures or you could go for an all season one.
So with a regular weekly clean of your used Vauxhall using good quality cleaning and waxing products from a reputable store or garage, your car should get less beaten up by the wintery conditions then if you leave it dirty all season. One idea might be to wash or rinse it every weekend at home and then every fourth weekend get it to a hand car wash and get it thoroughly rinsed down as well as giving your interior a once over.
