The Ford Fiesta is a car that has been a familiar sight on the streets of the UK since 1976 and has probably both transported millions of bags of shopping and been used for many school runs over the years. Therefore it comes as no surprise that whilst the Ford Fiesta as a concept is now becoming middle aged, there is still a load of life left in the car and it is still held in a fond place in many people's hearts. With that in mind, the recent awards from Auto Express for the Performance Car of the Year, for the New Ford Fiesta Metal which placed in the Top 10 'hot hatches' is testament to the cars continuing popularity. When you consider that this award category was open to such exotic entries from Bentley, Porsche, Aston Martin and Maserati then it is clear that the Ford Fiesta can pack quite an impressive punch.
Of course, for many years Ford had a Ford Fiesta in their range that could be considered a 'hot hatch' and many a person has enjoyed the performance and thrills that these cars provided. Whilst it is a certainly a rarity to see one on the streets these days, the Ford XR2 was a performance Ford Fiesta for the masses. Later Ford updated the Fiesta and also introduced new performance models to boot, which were the Ford Fiesta XR2i and the Ford Fiesta RS Turbo. Any time Ford dubbed a car an RS Turbo you knew you were going to get something a little bit special and impressive and this particular hot hatch was no exception to the rule. Sadly back in the 1990's insurance costs went through the roof as most manufacturers entered the hot hatch marketplace and auto thefts increased dramatically, so if you had one of these sporty models back then you had to keep your eyes on it!
Of course today, when comparing the latest Ford Fiesta to the earlier models, there is now an unparalleled level of performance, style and trim. There has been an impressive progression throughout the years and there seems to be little to connect the MK1 and the MK7 models together apart from the badge and the name!
Are you looking to find out more information about the Ford Fiesta Sussex-based Ford enthusiasts can pop along to their local ford dealer in their area to get the low down on the latest models available.
