There are foods to reduce uric acid levels in our bodies. This could be especially important to those who suffer from gout or kidney stones. Both of these conditions are caused by high levels of this acid, and they are both intensely painful to suffer through. They are usually reoccurring conditions as well. That means that once you get them once; you will most likely suffer from them again. What some people may not know is that the levels of uric acid are closely influenced by the foods that we eat. Red meats and beans are high in proteins (which some refer to as purines) and when they are broken down in the body, produce uric acid.

Since kidney stones and gout do not happen overnight, adding foods to reduce uric acid will not show the benefits right away either. However, it is an important preventative measure that you should take if you suffer from either of these conditions. Nettle tea has been around for hundreds of years, and has been shown to improve kidney function. Since this acid is filtered out by the kidneys, it stands to reason that anything that will help them work better will also lower acid levels too.

Black cherries are one of the newer foods to reduce uric acid. That is not to say that cherries are new, but the effects of them are newly discovered to lower levels greatly. It is now being recommended for gout sufferers to consume at least one serving of black cherries a day. You should try to get fresh, frozen, or all natural fruit juice for your servings though to get the best benefits from it. Strawberries will also have the same effect to a lesser degree as what cherries do.

Foods to reduce uric acid would also include those that contain Vitamin C. Citrus fruits especially are great for this, and if gotten in the fresh, frozen, or all natural fruit juice forms are much more likely to help reduce the levels than just what the capsules will. That does not mean that capsules won't help because they will, but fresh will help more. Also, be sure to include this in your daily diet since Vitamin C is eliminated routinely from our bodies because it is water-soluble. It is rather simple to incorporate since there are so many ways to get it now, but if choosing capsules get one that is readily absorbed and used by our bodies like a soft gel instead of a tablet.
