There are many different types of causes of high uric acid levels in our bodies. However, one of the commonly known causes is proteins. Red meats, especially organ meats, and certain types of seafood, which are especially high in proteins, get broken down into uric acid in our systems. Essentially, the more protein you eat the more uric acid you will produce. Since the kidneys are supposed to filer out some of this; high levels will usually produce kidney stones. It also means that if you suffer from anything that impairs the function of your kidneys you will be much more likely to suffer from higher levels than what others might have.

Meat proteins are not the only causes of high uric acid levels. Some vegetables like beans and spinach and lentils are also going to be extremely high in proteins and will also get broken down into uric acid by our bodies as well. For those that do not like your veggies you now have a good excuse not to eat them. However you can still eat some vegetable and be fine.

Yeasts are another of the causes for high uric acid levels. Sweetbreads, white bread, and beer are sources of yeast that you should avoid. When choosing bread go for the whole grain option instead of the processed white breads, and unfortunately you may have to limit your beer drinking quite a bit if not quitting altogether. I know that this is not going to seem like a reasonable choice for those of you that do actually enjoy drinking beer, but you might want to consider different types of beers like lagers or ale and see if they have different yeast or a lesser volume of yeast in their makeup. You could also change your drink of choice to something completely different too.

There are probably other causes of high uric acid out there, and some of them will have more to do with different health conditions that you might also have. However, these are among some of the causes that you can actually control and eliminate from your diet or moderate so that your levels can be reduced. You might not be able to do anything about other medical conditions that affect your kidneys other than taking medications that will help. However, adding some red berries to your diet, as well as high volumes of vitamin C, can also help reduce the levels of this acid.
