Do you know that there are certain types of food to avoid with gout? If you have gone to see a doctor about your condition I am sure that they have told you this. However, I know that there are some very stubborn people out there that have not gone to see a doctor at all even though they know something is very wrong. The classic symptom of gout is severe pain in the first joint of the big toe. It is not usually something that stays around either. It may last for a few days or a week, and then it goes away for a little while. Just when you think it is gone for good it comes back again.
Ever wonder why it happens that way? Your diet is probably the reason for it because there are certain types of food to avoid with gout. Red meats, especially organ meats would be the biggest one you should avoid. The proteins in red meats are among the highest for forming uric acid in your system when they get broke down. Uric acid build up is what actually causes the flare-ups of gout in the first place.
Other types of food to avoid with gout besides proteins would be certain types of yeast. Yes, for those of you that like a cold one occasionally, this does mean beer. It is also going to include certain types of breads. Sweet breads are among the ones that you will certainly want to avoid the most. Not sure what I mean about sweet breads? Think about all the breads we make like cinnamon swirls or the fruity dessert breads. Those are the ones that you are going to want to stay away from. Yes you should also avoid beer as well.
Another type of food to avoid with gout would be those green, leafy vegetables that everyone says are so good for you. Spinach, broccoli, beans, lentils, and even cauliflower will all increase the amount of uric acid your body produces when they get broken down. In this cause eating your vegetables might not be good for you at all. There are some veggies that you can eat, but stay away from all the green, leafy vegetables, and all types of beans as well.
If you can avoid these types of foods you should see a reduction in the number of flare-ups you suffer through with your gout.
